HTC set up a “Studio” division to help with “Hero Device”

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Android News

So we all know HTC had a very mixed year last year. It started out all right but as the year progressed sales dwindled as HTC pumped out device after device, each one with similar specs to the other and most of their devices started to look similar or like they were made up from parts left over from different phones. This year HTC is changing things up. At their financial results call HTC acknowledged that 2011 was a less than stellar year and have set up the “Studio” division.

UPDATE: I’m Back!

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Uncategorized

Hey guys not really a news article but more of a message to our readers that I am back after taking a break from Droid-Den to concentrate on my studies. I know it has been a while since I posted anything but my studies take priority over posting news (Sorry about that).

This week I’ll be posting an article on how well Android 4.0.3 (ICS) works on my, almost 2 year old, HTC Desire and I’ll be posting the “Droid-Den’s Weekly Update” article (formerly known as Android News Weekly Update) where you can get a quick look of this week’s Android news. If you own a desire and into flashing your device with beta ROMs the links to such ROMs will be at the bottom of this post. I have been using it as my main driver for the past few weeks and here’s a minor preview, “It runs fairly well”.

Android News Weekly Update

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Android News

Welcome to the third edition of the Droid Den’s Android News Weekly Update Article, where you can find snippets of Android News from the past week. So let’s get cracking.

Motorola Show off the new RAZR

Motorola gave us a look at their RAZR reboot and I have to say I am impressed. It has some amazing specs and is amazingly thin at only 7.1mm at its thinnest point. It’s also got the same processor as the Galaxy Nexus (OMAP 4460) clocked at 1.2GHz. It also has a qHD Super AMOLED Advanced display and has what Motorola is calling ‘Splash Guard’. For full details about the phone read on here.

EA and Samsung bring Deadspace to Android this Autumn

Looks like EA and Samsung are planning to up the game when it comes to Android games. I liked Dead Space when it came out on PC and I like horror films/games. Reports seem to suggest that this looks amazing on high-end Android devices. I can’t wait to see the potential of Android devices pushed to its limits when this comes out.

Droid RAZR available from 1st November in Europe

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Android News

Online retailer clove.co.uk is expecting stock of the freshly announce Motorola Droid RAZR on the 1st of November. That pretty good considering it is slated for a November 10th release in the US. There is some bad news however. It seems that the latest offering from Motorola will ship with a locked bootloader. It has been confirmed by a Motorola twitter account. Very sad news indeed for people looking to install custom ROMs on the RAZR. There is no news on whether it will be unlockable after launch.

Droid RAZR 2

Looks extremely slim doesn’t it? How do you guys feel about Motorola sticking to the same policy when it comes to bootloaders? Let us know in the comments section below!

Droid RAZR

So Motorola have unveiled the Motorola Droid RAZR with some very impressive specs, especially the thickness of the device. It is only 7.1mm thin at its thinnest point. Motorola seem to have also managed to improve the battery life of the phone by adding ‘Smart Actions’ software features to automatically turn off applications and functionality while at home or low on battery.

Android news weekly update

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Android News

Welcome to the second edition of the Droid-Den Android news weekly update. The aim behind this post is to give readers a quick way of catching up on Android news from the last week. This post is slightly late but expect posts to be up weekly on Sundays or Mondays.

Google/Samsung Nexus Event Moved to 19th October

samsung google hk event
So the new date for Google/Samsung Nexus event is confirmed. The 19th of October, in Hong Kong. The event starts at 10AM local time. For everyone reading this on Tuesday 18th, that’s early tomorrow morning at 3AM (UK). Hong Kong seems like a strange place to host the event for me but I will try my best to get up and follow the event. Hopefully, it’ll be worth it. I am expecting big things with Larry Page saying “You won’t believe what we have managed to do in this release” and “I’m super excited”. Lets hope it’s as “incredible” as it sounds. Remember you can still watch the event live online at their youtube page.

Galaxy Nexus/Nexus Prime Caught on Video and Spec rumours

Written by Jonathan Mallett. Posted in Android News

Nexus Prime

A video of, allegedly, the next nexus device has leaked along with screen shots of Android 4.0. Check them out at the bottom of the post. The leak also shows that new versions of the Google Music and Google+ apps have been included in ICS. Messenger in Google+ has now been renamed to chords. There is also a video floating around that someone has managed to get new Nexus boot animation running on a Droid Bionic. Sometimes I wonder whether Google strategically leak out stuff to get people excited.

Skip past the break to read about the specs and watch the afro-mentioned videos.
