Welcome to Wednesdays issue of the Android Daily Dose, all the top android news at the halfway point of the week.

Day 2 of Mobile World Congress, and news seems to have slowed down somewhat. I guess thats what happens when the major players make their big announcements the day before it kicks off! Still, plenty of good android news flying around, so without further ado…!

The first day of Mobile World Congress today, and from the looks of things its pretty much all android! Sure, Microsoft gave a keynote about adding copy & paste to Windows Phone 7 sometime in 2011, but to be honest, that bit of news didn’t really excite me all that much… Anyway loads of android news, really hard to pick out the most important ones!

Saturday left us wanting on teh news frront, as usually happens on a weekend when most people tend to be chilling out rather than working! Sunday, the classic day of rest held a few surprises thanks to the pre-Mobile World Congress announcements, especially from Samsung and Sony Ericsson!

The Galaxy Tab is a great device, I wasn’t too sure about the 7″ form before I purchased mine, but honestly it’s a perfect size. You just don’t realise until you use it. Anyhow, Modaco has just released a custom rom and kernel for the tab that increases performance quite a lot. If you have a tab I definitely recommend you add this to your device. As expected, there isn’t really any good step-by-step instructions out there on how to get this on your galaxy tab, well until now Take the jump for full step-by-step instructions!

Okay, so I have been searching the web for the last 4 hours trying to find a permanent root for the HTC Desire HD, however it looks like no-one has successfully done this yet. Hold back the tears though because I I’m not done.

Through my cyber travels I repeatedly read about an app called VISIONary (trust me, that is how the forums typing it), so I jumped in and had a look. It turns out that this app can perform what can only be called a “TempRoot” and it is incredible. Simply install the .apk, run the programand your HTC Desire HD is rooted! The only problem is that as soon as you reboot your device, it becomes unrooted again. Not to worry though, there is an added option to root on every reboot, OR attempt a “PermRoot”! And guess what, you can even UnRoot if you PermRoot. Now i know what your thinking, “if its only a TempRoot how can you PermRoot? Basically the program itself forces the rooting process every time you reboot, as long as the program is installed on to your device. Also you are NOT able to install custom ROMs as of the time this guide was written.

So you have an android phone, but your main email account isn’t a gmail one. What do you do? Well lets get the important thing over with first. Make gmail your #1 main email! You won’t regret it. It works so flawlessly with android that it would be silly not to. Not to mention its fantastic on your PC, especially if you use Chrome browser (and if not, why the hell not?!). Anyway, I know lots of people have other, non-gmail accounts (me included). So I thought I’d write up a guide on how to best manage these alternative emails you have within android. I’ll be using hotmail as the example alternative email, simply because its the most common email you guys will have.

So yesterday Kongregate released their first Android app to the market, and it was pretty damn good. It basically gave you access to over 300 FREE flash games. The app itself acts like a sort of catalogue, you browse to the game you want to play, and can either download it to play offline, or in some cases just play it online. The games have been optimised for mobile it seems, and the ones I have tried work really well, especially on the 7″ screen of the galaxy tab! You will need to have adobe flash installed to be able to play these games, so do bear that in mine as the app won’t work with older versions of android.
