Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 To Get Gingerbread

Written by Rachid Otsmane-Elhaou. Posted in Android News

This is terrific news! This phone actually shipped with android 1.6 remember, at a time when it really should have been on 2.1. The phone was slow and buggy, and many thought Sony Ericsson would simply write the phone off. However, they did upgrade the phone to 2.1, and have listened to their customers and will bring Gingerbread (2.3.3) to the Xperia X10.

The bigger news here is that Sony Ericsson is trying to show us that they are committed to android, and that if you buy one of their phones, you can expect updates to the latest versions of android.

The upgrade will be available some time between Q2/Q3, and will of course be rolled out to those running gerneic firmware first. For those of you with network branded phones the wait may be longer (or perhaps never…)
