Google Acquires The Android.Me Domain

Written by Rachid Otsmane-Elhaou. Posted in Android News

This is some more interesting news from Google. They have recently acquired the domain android.me. This purchase might hint at some sort of central hub for managing your android account and android devices. Some say that there would be no pint as Google already own the android.com domain. But that is used as more of a platform overview site.

We have seen both HTC and Samsung offer online hubs for managing, backing up and locating your device (if you ever happen to lose it), so this is within the realm of possibility. However, it may simply be the case that google don’t want anyone else to own such a domain, and have bought it to ensure that they control it. This becomes even more likely when you realise Google also own the following domains, yet do nothing with them: google.me, gmail.me, adwords.me, adsense.me, plus.me, blogger.me, orkut.me and youtube.me.

But it’s fun to speculate right!
