Froyo still the most popular but Gingerbread is catching up

Android Stats

Google have just released the latest Android stats and Android 2.2 (Froyo) is still the most popular version of Android out there with 45.3% but Android 2.3.x (Gingerbread) is catching up now with 38.7% of active devices. Previous versions of Android have slumped down to less than 15% and honeycomb is still only at 1.8%. Of course it is slightly unfair to compare Android tablet sales to phone sales but I just wonder how the release of Ice-Cream Sandwich will affect this statistic. Ice-Cream Sandwich (thought to be Android 4.0) is meant unite the tablet and phone versions of Android into one super OS. We’ll have to wait until next week when it’s unveiled but till then enjoy yet another statistical chart after the break.
